Client referrals on WhatsApp: turning satisfied clients into introductions
Build a referral programme on WhatsApp: who to ask, a reward that stays within FAIS and FCA rules, the invitation template and how to welcome the referred prospect.

Referrals are the first source of new clients for most brokerages, and WhatsApp is already where they travel: a client forwards your contact card to a friend in three seconds. This message simply asks them to, at the right moment.
The right moment is always a stated satisfaction: a good score on the post-claim survey, a thank-you after a certificate delivered within the hour, a cover review that reduced the premium. Sent cold it falls flat. In ORIS a segment of "positive reply in the last thirty days and high engagement score" gives the right list; the message goes out as a marketing template with the matching consent.
Be careful with incentives. Under FAIS, paying anyone for introducing business is constrained and a referral fee can turn the referrer into someone rendering a financial service without a licence; in the UK, the FCA's rules on introducers and inducements apply, and a premium discount is the insurer's decision, not yours. Across Kenya, Nigeria and Ghana referral culture is strong, but the same caution applies with the regulator. The most effective ask is also the simplest: "if someone you know needs a broker, forward them my number".
Carefully. In South Africa, FAIS restricts payments to persons who are not licensed or appointed representatives; in the UK, introducer and inducement rules apply. A thank-you gift of modest value is usually the safe choice; check with your compliance officer before anything more.
Marketing: it relates to no transaction of the client's and aims to grow the brokerage. It therefore needs an approved marketing template and marketing consent, and must exclude clients who opted out.
As a prospect who opened a conversation: reply within the 24-hour window, ask for their opt-in, note the referrer on their record, and let the referrer know their contact has been looked after, without disclosing anything about the policies.
